Staff clarifies effective dates in eviction-prevention ordinance

City staff briefed the Spokane City Council on a technical amendment to the eviction-prevention ordinance intended to remove confusion about effective dates.
"This is a technical amendment to fix the dates in the eviction prevention ordinance," the staff presenter said. The presenter explained that the rental increase notice provisions in the code took effect in June 2024 and the new requirement that connects to eviction-prevention resources would take effect on 06/01/2026.
Council members thanked staff for the clarification; the amendment was presented for the draft agenda on May 18 so council could act during formal readings.
