Hampton County Council approves appointments and advances sales-tax closing agreement
Summary
Council approved two-year appointments for the clerk and county attorney (Attorney Algie Solomons), reappointed four disability-board members by ballot and approved second reading of an ordinance providing for use of about $3.2 million in remaining capital-project sales-tax proceeds and a closing agreement with the South Carolina Department of Revenue.
At the May 4 Hampton County Council meeting, councilmembers approved a series of personnel appointments and advanced a fiscal ordinance addressing remaining capital-project sales-tax (CPTS) proceeds.
By show of hands the council approved a two-year appointment for the clerk to the council/administrative assistant position effective immediately. Council then moved, seconded and approved a two-year appointment for the county attorney, identified in the meeting as Attorney Algie Solomons.
The council also conducted a ballot vote to reappoint four individuals to the disability board for three-year terms ending May 2029: Matthew Graham, Mary Innes, Wanda DeWitt and Lucille Sanders.
On ordinances, a presenter summarized an ordinance to approve the use of remaining CPTS proceeds and a closing agreement with the South Carolina Department of Revenue. The presenter described roughly $3,200,000 in remaining proceeds, including approximately $1,100,000 still in a county capital-improvement account and about $2,200,000 associated with the closing agreement; the department’s audit reportedly found no fraud or willful misconduct by Hampton County. Council approved second reading of the ordinance by show of hands.
The chair read items as approved and moved the meeting toward executive session later in the agenda to address legal advice related to an audit and personnel evaluations for the county administrator, clerk to council and county attorney.
