The Skagway Municipality Historic District Commission voted to issue a certificate of approval for development permit 2026016 submitted by Giovanni Dos Santos (DBA Skagway BH LLC) to enclose two walls as part of a small addition.
The applicant said interior elements and state fire marshal approvals are complete; the exterior work involves matching existing siding on two walls and the roof. Permitting official Kristen Perry reported she had reviewed plans and visited the site and described the proposed change as simple and consistent with the existing building. The clerk reminded the commission that code requires two meetings only for historic structures; for nonhistoric structures the commission may complete review in a single meeting.
A commissioner said closing in the open area behind the building might improve the streetscape and protect the structure. The commission moved to find the application within historic‑district guidelines, directed that a certificate of approval be dispatched, and approved the motion by roll call with all voting members in favor.
Next steps: the permitting office will process the certificate and issue the final permit following standard permitting checks.
