Board approves two rezones, including compliance rezone for storage site
Summary
The La Paz County Board approved Docket Z2026-05 (C2 to RA-10 for APN 304-68-001D) and Docket Z2026-06 (RA to C2 to bring an existing storage site into compliance), following staff reports and unanimous planning commission recommendations.
La Paz County supervisors approved two zoning changes on May 4, 2026: a change requested by property owner Shauna Norton to rezone an APN from Regional Commercial (C2) to Rural Agricultural (RA-10) for future residential use, and a separate rezone (Docket Z2026-06) to bring longstanding storage improvements into compliance by rezoning from RA to C2.
Community Development staff reported that Planning & Zoning recommended approval of both dockets by unanimous votes and that public notice produced no objections for Z2026-06 and zero objections and one letter of support for Z2026-05. No applicants or members of the public spoke during the hearings.
A motion to approve Z2026-05 was moved and seconded and the board voted to approve the request. Likewise, a motion to approve Z2026-06 (to regularize storage improvements constructed years earlier) passed by voice vote.
The approvals follow the department's assessment that the Norton parcel conversion supports future residential use and that the Grapevine Inc. property had permitted storage improvements placed prior to staff tenure and the rezone brings the property into compliance.
Next steps: approvals will be recorded with the county's land records; any conditions, permits or building standards required for future development will be handled through Community Development.
