Red Springs updates timeline for splash pad, bathhouse; town lists several upcoming community events

Town staff updated the board on the splash pad and bathhouse project and highlighted upcoming community events.
Staff said the town has the splash pad materials on hand but that bathhouse materials will take about eight weeks to arrive. They expect permits to be in by around Sept. 1 and plan to begin construction approximately Sept. 8'12. The bathhouse will include restrooms and a ticketing area with views toward Layton Street and the splash pad; the project will also add a 20-by-20 picnic shelter with four picnic tables between the splash pad and Tomko (Tomco) Park.
A staff member noted the splash pad will use fresh water discharged to the sewer system (not a recirculating system), which simplifies on-site treatment requirements. "This splash pad is not recycling any water or anything. So the water is just gonna go into the sewer," the staff member said, describing the sanitary approach.
Staff also listed events and outreach: National Night Out at Tomko Park, a Friends of Red Springs Back-to-School Bazaar on Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and attendance by town officials at the Electric Cities conference in Myrtle Beach Aug. 11'. Staff encouraged residents to follow the town's YouTube livestreams and Facebook page for updates and volunteer opportunities.
Next steps: staff will continue permitting and construction scheduling and will share operational details for the bathhouse and splash pad ahead of pool season.
