Chase County approves amended EMS ambulance order, directs limited facility work

Chase County Commissioners authorized signing a modified Shop Order Confirmation Form for a county ambulance and approved a price increase to $330,420.95 at the April 14 meeting. The amendment added an approved grill guard and substituted steel wheels with simulators after county review of graphics and equipment options.
Representatives from Imperial and Wauneta EMS said both services received final Shop Order Confirmation forms. Wauneta’s form had already been signed after discussions with a Commissioner; Imperial asked about graphics and adding a grill guard. Commissioners declined a $10,000 additional charge for an alternate black-and-orange graphic on a black base but allowed the grill guard (estimated $3,500–$4,000) and the steel wheels option because Ford aluminum rims were not available.
The Board also reviewed Wauneta EMS’s quarterly report. Wauneta confirmed that Andrew Hatz completed the EMT-B course and that the county paid his tuition; staff will pursue state reimbursement. The EMS presented an Operational Set-Up Needs list for a new EMS building — locked office (12x14), bathroom (12x12), kitchenette, building-level climate control concerns, electrical work, water spigots, quick-release overhead door options, and new signage. Commissioners asked the EMS to obtain construction bids for the bathroom and storage/office space and return with estimates; they noted full-building air conditioning may be pursued later with grant funding.
The minutes record the approving motion: 'Commissioner Bernhardt moved to approve the increased price and to sign the confirmation form. Motion seconded by Commissioner Brown.' The vote was Muehlenkamp — yes; Brown — yes; Bernhardt — yes.
