Owen County commissioners approve monthly claims, grant and two contracts; radio project tabled

The Owen County Board of Commissioners approved routine claims totaling $612,860.64 and a series of county contracts and grants at its March 19 meeting.
Chair Jason Ball moved and the board approved the minutes from the March 5 meeting and the payroll and claims package, which the chair summarized as payroll $323,767.27, regular claims $234,351.17 and a Toshiba contract of $54,742.20 for a total of $612,860.64.
Natasha Pointer of the probation office requested approval of the county's annual Department of Correction community corrections grant. "I just need approval for our Department of Correction grant that we apply for every year, for community corrections," Pointer said. The board reviewed the packet and approved the grant; Pointer asked for a signed letter to accompany the application.
The board also discussed an environmental testing contract for the Patrick's Berg dump site and accepted the staff recommendation for the higher-priced option. Chair Ball described two pricing options; staff and counsel recommended option 2 at about $58,676 with testing work required for compliance. The board moved to accept the AECOM proposal and approved the contract. Staff noted that signature routing will include the sheriff's office and the health department and that associated waiver/release forms need to be completed.
On infrastructure inspections, the board accepted an HWC contract for scheduled bridge inspections, with the first inspection to occur in November. The motion to accept the HWC contract as written was seconded and passed by voice vote.
The board moved to table the county radio project to a future meeting, after the auditor warned that upcoming appropriations may be needed and that timing of LIT (local option income tax) receipts could require payment scheduling adjustments.
