Pittsburgh Public Schools board approves committee reports, reports nine student expulsions

The Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Directors on March 25 approved multiple committee reports covering education, business and finance and human resources and was told that nine students were expelled for 11 days or more.

The chair opened the legislative session, called for motions and led roll-call votes as the board moved through its agenda. The board approved minutes from its Feb. 25 legislative session and approved committee reports for education (items 5.01–8.14), business and finance (items 9.01–12.04) and human resources (items 13.01–14.09, including addenda). The chair said, "There were 9 students expelled out of school for 11 days or more." The board recorded an abstention on item 5.02; the transcript shows that item 5.02 passed with a different tally (reported as 7–1), while item 8.03 passed unanimously.

The chair also read an executive session statement noting the board met in executive session on Feb. 25, on March 18 and immediately prior to the March 25 meeting to discuss personnel matters, including administrative vacancies and positions opened and closed. The chair stated that the board does not take votes in executive session.

Board members heard controller's reports for the months ending Dec. 31, 2025, Jan. 31, 2026 and Feb. 28, 2026, and an EBE report; no substantive questions were raised during those presentations. The human resources report was approved by roll call and recorded as unanimous.

During the announcements portion of the meeting, Director Barker congratulated Pittsburgh high school basketball teams on advancing to the state tournament and thanked staff and families who travelled to support the players. The board then moved, seconded and voted to adjourn the March 25 legislative session.
