Emery County approves $1,000 to send Emory High student leaders to leadership conference

Emery County commissioners voted June 3 to donate $1,000 to the Emory High School Student Council to help send 23 student leaders to the Trailblazer Leadership Conference in St. George.
"We are here today on behalf of the Emory High School Student Council to request your generous support in sending 23 of our student leaders to the Trailblazer Leadership Conference this year," said Abielle O'Neil, who identified herself as a student council representative. Student presenters described workshops, service projects and team-building activities they said improved school culture and leadership skills.
Commissioners discussed the students’ fundraising efforts and whether the district was providing assistance; presenters said the school and local fundraisers would cover part of the cost. Commission discussion noted last year’s $1,000 donation and underscored the educational value of the program. The commission moved, seconded and approved the $1,000 donation; commissioners asked that students return with a brief report after the conference.
The payment will be disbursed through the county’s standard process. The motion passed by voice vote.
