District 207 honors students across academics, arts and athletics

The Maine Township High School District 207 Board of Education opened its meeting with an extended student recognition program honoring achievements in career exploration, academics, arts and athletics.
Presenters highlighted several individual honorees and program recognitions across the district. Speaker 4 introduced Ingrid Birkey as Maine South’s District 207 Best recipient for career exploration, noting she was accepted into Maine South’s nursing assistant program and has interned at Lutheran General Hospital. Presenter remarks described Birkey’s membership in the National Honor Society and multiple subject honor societies and said she plans to pursue nursing after graduation.
At Maine East, Speaker 7 recognized Joshua Potts for career exploration and hands‑on trades experience, citing his participation in career treks, the Plumbers Bridge program and an apprenticeship pathway at ABT Electronics. Teachers and coaches praised Potts’s leadership and persistence; Speaker 7 said the district is “proud to recognize him for his outstanding commitment to career exploration.”
Maine West honoree Alicia (referred to in remarks as Delisha) was recognized for her communications internship work; Speaker 2 described her social media and news‑release contributions to the district and internship supervisors praised her creativity and reliability.
The board also called forward students who achieved top scores on standardized tests and in statewide competitions. Speaker 2 explained that a perfect ACT composite is 36 and said “between 1 and 1.5 million students take the ACT every year” with roughly one quarter to one half of 1% achieving a perfect score. The district announced 16 National Merit commended students and five National Merit finalists. Fine arts representatives and coaches presented All‑State theater and music recognitions and Scholastic Art & Writing Gold and Silver Key winners.
Special Olympics participants were introduced and acknowledged by Speaker 11 and Michelle Clark (Speaker 12), who named several athletes in attendance and congratulated the team.
The recognition program concluded with a reminder about the Maine Township High School Foundation benefit (mthsfoundation.org), which the board said supports teacher grants across District 207.
The meeting moved from the awards into regular business after the recognitions.
