Pike County Fiscal Court approved a series of procurement and capital items at its regular meeting, awarding annual bids and authorizing purchases from state or cooperative contracts.
Procurement officer Greg presented recommended awards across multiple bid packages (bid numbers 06-18 and several capital items). The court awarded vendors for cleaning supplies, corrugated pipe, limestone, tires and parts, road salt (Morton Salt), bulk oil and several other routine contracts, following staff recommendations and noting some items were available on state or cooperative contracts. Several bids received multiple recommended vendors to ensure supply redundancy.
Capital purchases approved included a Caterpillar grader ($393,979.28 after state-contract discounts and negotiated multi-machine discounts), a smaller Caterpillar excavator ($63,240.47), a skid steer with warranty and service agreements ($163,797.84), an 11-yard packer for solid waste ($218,800), a remote slope mower on tracks (quote $69,990, Emtek) for landfill slope safety, and a cold planer attachment ($34,108.75). The court also approved siding and plywood replacement for the Phelps Courthouse (Bailey Construction, $29,750) and awarded a fire-panel upgrade at the Judicial Center to Century Fire Protection ($51,978), with state reimbursement noted for that item.
A separate grant-funded law-enforcement procurement was approved: firearms and related duty equipment would be purchased under a fully reimbursable grant from Keesler Police Supply (state contract) for approximately $42,425.40, and ammunition would be purchased locally from Robinette's Gun and Archery for about $5,500, to be paid from sheriff-allocated proceeds. Commissioners approved the package by individual motions and roll-call votes.
Court members discussed equipment needs in light of road and landfill conditions created by recent floods, stressed the safety rationale for a remote mower on steep landfill slopes, and noted that many items were available because vendors participate on state contracts or cooperative purchasing agreements. Several motions were recorded as passed by roll-call vote.
