Fiscal Court votes to extend management term for county golf course to 10 years

The Pike County Fiscal Court voted to modify the management agreement with GCM Group LLC, extending the contract with an additional 10-year term and alternate 10-year renewals after a period of discussion about the operator's investments and county obligations.

Court members debated whether to change the existing five-year automatic renewal structure to a 10-year automatic renewal or to add an additional 10-year term. Commissioners and staff noted the manager had invested heavily in the facility (one commissioner estimated about $4 million), has a restaurant on site and has undertaken upgrades to the greens. Several members said they would prefer to meet with the manager before finalizing terms to confirm feasibility and to clarify when the county's lease-payment obligation would end.

After discussion, a motion was made to modify the management agreement to add a new 10-year term with alternate 10-year renewals; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. During the debate members raised questions about whether the countywould be expected to continue paying lease obligations during the extended term and whether the manager would be in a position to assume lease payments within the proposed timeframe. The judge recommended meeting with the manager to work out payment timing and other details before implementing any new payment obligations.

The court recorded the vote and planned to take a group photo with the proclamation (separate item) and to follow up with the manager to finalize contract language. No additional documents were adopted in the meeting to change payment terms beyond the approval to modify the management agreement term.
