Carson Parks commissioners used the March 26 meeting to celebrate youth achievements across the city and to thank staff who run youth programs.
A staff presenter read the list of spelling bee winners by grade and the chamber applauded the students. Recreation program manager Scott Griffey said the 2025–26 youth basketball season included 111 teams and roughly 960 participants; staff recorded about 618 regular‑season games (not counting playoffs). “So still a very, great season,” Griffey said, noting a slight drop from the previous year but praising coaches and parent volunteers.
Multiple coaches and team representatives spoke on behalf of their players, praising development and on‑court growth. Coaches highlighted individual standouts (for example, an MVP with 16 points in a final and several players who had breakthrough seasons) and thanked park supervisors and staff for their support.
Commissioners thanked staff and volunteers; Chair Lawrence and other commissioners commended the programs for emphasizing player development over winning. Scott Griffey announced he plans to retire in July after many years of service, and commissioners offered congratulations and appreciation.
What it means: Staff said youth sports build community and cited program metrics as part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve offerings. No program funding changes or policy votes were taken at this meeting.
