Abington approves park, trail and EV projects, change order and grant application

The Abington Township Board of Commissioners on April 16 approved several capital and infrastructure items spanning parks, trails, electric-vehicle infrastructure and construction contract work.
Vice President Matt Vahey introduced resolution 26-017 to authorize an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) C2P2 grant program to fund rehabilitation of the deck at Briar Bush; the board moved, seconded and approved the authorization and a commitment-of-funds letter to support the application.
The board also approved advertising an electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) procurement and voted to approve change order number 1 to GMB Construction for $6,008 for unforeseen work related to the Acting Jenk town connections project.
Separately, the board reallocated $50,000 from account 18-10780-408-260002 to Phase 2B of the Edmonton Juneteenth Connections trail project; commissioners praised the lengthy staff effort and reported that phases 1–4 are nearly complete with a single contractor task remaining. The board moved and carried the reallocation.
Finally, the board awarded the Avathorpe Pavilion rehabilitation and trail contract to G & B Constructions for $139,080 with a $10,000 contingency; the motion was moved, seconded and carried. Commissioners noted the public‑works and construction teams who advanced the projects.
