Verona approves 2026 solar project RFP as part of municipal decarbonization plan

The Verona Common Council approved a request for proposals for the 2026 municipal solar project after staff reviewed sustainability goals and recent installations.
City administration told the council the city has set a goal of achieving 100% carbon neutrality for municipal operations by 2050 and that two solar arrays — installed in 2025 at City Hall and the fire department — represent initial steps toward that goal. "The city of Verona continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability... The city has established a goal of achieving a 100% carbon neutrality for all municipal operations by 2050," the administrator said.
Alderman Swanson moved to approve the 2026 solar project RFP and Alderman Helmke seconded the motion. The council approved the RFP by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will release the RFP and return to council with proposals and recommendations once respondents are evaluated.
