Council approves Verdantus work orders and moves forward with Waverly Lane road program

The South Russell Village Council on May 4 approved multiple engineering work orders and authorized moving the 2026 road program for Waverly Lane to the bidding phase.

Council adopted an ordinance approving Work Order No. 1 to Verdantus’ master services agreement for the Hazelwood storm sewer and pavement replacement project in an amount not to exceed $181,000. The ordinance was introduced with emergency language, a roll-call vote was taken and the measure passed; the mayor was authorized to execute the work order on behalf of the village.

Separately, council introduced and adopted a Verdantus work order not to exceed $57,000 for design, bidding and construction administration for the Waverly Lane paving project. Committee discussion indicated that the village will seek to preserve a local paving plan after a state contract deferred Bell Road East to 2027. The Streets Committee recommended Waverly Lane for the village’s 2026 road program; the committee provided a $375,000 estimate for Waverly Lane plus culvert and apron repairs as part of the run-to-bid authorization.

Officials said the $57,000 figure covers professional design services and construction administration, while the $181,000 work order covers storm-sewer and pavement replacement for Hazelwood. Council members clarified that the design work is a separate ordinance and that some engineering authorization appears as a distinct work order under the village’s master services agreement with Verdantus.

Next steps: The ordinances passed with recorded roll-call ayes; the village will proceed with Verdantus' work and publish bidding documents for the 2026 road program.
