The Verona Planning Commission on May 4 approved several routine land-use items, including a conditional use permit that allows a permanent outdoor display of merchandise at 600 Hometown Circle, a recommendation to the common council on a certified survey map for 3040 Shady Oak Lane, and a site plan amendment relocating one office building within Campus 6 at 1979 Milky Way Drive.
Planning staff told the commission the conditional use permit application would allow sheds to be displayed in two designated parking-stall areas on the Farm & Fleet property and recommended approval, noting the stalls proposed for display are not heavily used under current conditions. "The application meets the standards of review, and staff recommends approval of the request," staff said during the presentation.
Commissioner Wood asked whether permanent displays would carry ongoing maintenance requirements; staff said code maintenance standards and enforcement options could be applied to ensure displays are kept in good repair. Alderson moved to approve the permit; Commissioner Wood seconded, and the motion passed with the ayes called by the chair.
On a related procedural item, the commission recommended the common council approve a certified survey map to create one lot and three outlots abutting Shady Oak Lane. Planning staff said the outlots would be temporary designations to facilitate current sale and phased development and cannot be improved until a future plat is submitted. "Outlot is basically areas that are not right of way; it's privately owned land typically used for public purpose or common area," staff explained. The commission voted to recommend approval.
The commission also approved a site plan amendment for Campus 6 that relocates a proposed office building (Dragonfell) and updates materials on two other office buildings. Staff said the relocation adjusts the order and layout of buildings on the campus and that final building design will return to the commission for review. Alderson moved to approve the amendment; Commissioner Wood seconded and the motion carried.
The items passed after limited discussion; no formal opposition was recorded. The commission closed each hearing or motion in sequence and moved on to further business, including initial reviews of parking and outdoor-dining ordinance changes and an informational review of a proposed event space at 221 Horizon Drive.
