MADD introduces free victim-support and school programs to Claremont council

Rose Zapata, a program specialist with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), presented the organization's victim services and educational programming to the council and requested opportunities to partner with Claremont schools and community events.
Zapata described MADD's two primary functions: victim services (emotional support, court accompaniment, assistance applying for crime-victim compensation and referrals) and education (classroom workshops for elementary, middle and high schools, teen-influencer social-media efforts and prom-season presentations). She said services are provided at no cost and that MADD partners with law-enforcement checkpoints and community resource fairs.
Patricia Riera was introduced as the California executive director; Zapata said the local office covers Los Angeles and Orange counties, and that MADD hopes to be invited to schools and city events to deliver prevention presentations and victim speakers. She described additional outreach tools, including a virtual handbook and a crash-safety trailer exhibit available for community events.
Council welcomed the presentation and asked no action items beyond potential invitations to present to schools and community events.
