Herriman City Council approved a budget amendment on March 25 that will allow the city to move forward with a planned purchase of land for a southeast fire station.
City staff (Kyle) told the council that initial appraisals for the proposed property were significantly higher than the amount previously budgeted in the impact-fee fund. To complete the transaction if council approves the purchase, the budget amendment would allocate $900,000 of fund balance to supplement roughly $1 million already in the impact-fee fund. Kyle said staff intends to reimburse the fire service area from impact-fee collections over time.
Council opened and closed the required public hearing on the amendment, then approved resolution r01-26 by motion and roll-call vote.
The vote: the resolution passed with all councilors voting in favor. Staff said the reimbursement plan will transfer collected impact fees back to the fire service area to offset the one-time use of fund balance.
Next steps: If the council later approves the land purchase, staff will begin acquisition steps and track reimbursements as impact fees are collected.
