Jerome, the parks staff member, told the Park Advisory Board that the city applied for a NOCA CDBG grant with engineering staff and learned the application was preliminarily approved for two projects: trail maintenance and playground equipment at Little League Park.
Jerome said the preliminary figures communicated to the city were roughly $290,000 for trail work and about $83,000 for playground equipment. He added the county commissioners will meet May 12 to finalize award amounts and possibly reallocate funds among projects; the board will learn the final amounts after that meeting.
If the trail funds are confirmed, Jerome said the city could shift locally budgeted trail work to other priorities and use the grant money for the qualifying trail projects. He also noted the Little League playground project planners hope to involve students in design or selection once funding is confirmed.
