City staff outline FY2027 budget priorities and stormwater projects at Salem work session

City staff presented early Fiscal Year 2027 budget priorities and a summary of General Fund revenues and expenditures during a Feb. 23 work session in Salem, prompting Council discussion about near-term funding decisions and infrastructure needs.
Assistant Director of Community Development/City Engineer Will Simpson (participating remotely) and City Manager Chris Dorsey reviewed projected revenues and expenses and identified several funding priorities in the draft FY27 budget. Staff also provided a list of upcoming stormwater projects; Council and staff discussed the future structure and funding of the City’s stormwater program. No formal action was taken in the work session; items were presented for direction and will inform the City Manager’s draft budget.
Mayor Renée Ferris Turk specifically asked staff to consider funding for landscape enhancements along the City’s entrance corridors. Staff will include these priorities in follow-up budget materials for Council review at future meetings.
