Executive director requests extra May meetings to finalize 2027–2031 strategic plan and align with sunset review

Executive Director Steve told commissioners staff has been developing the 2027–2031 strategic plan and, because of an upcoming sunset review, requested flexibility and extra meeting dates to ensure alignment and public input.
Steve said staff started briefings in March and that the guidance and instructions are now issued. To accommodate review and feedback, he asked commissioners to consider additional commission meetings in the week of May 18 (he referenced possible dates including May 19 and May 26) to bring a draft strategic plan for feedback and then return for a final vote prior to the June 1 deadline tied to the planning cycle and the sunset process.
Chairman Esparza urged that the plan address emerging technologies, federal waiver opportunities and allow flexibility in program delivery where performance measures justify regional approaches. He asked staff to prepare a resource listing current measures, proposed new measures, key and non-key measures, and those required by state and federal entities. The executive director agreed and said staff will also consider vocational rehabilitation (VR) integration and user-experience improvements in the draft.
Commissioners agreed to coordinate schedules and attempt to hold the additional meetings during the requested week if calendars permit. No formal vote was required for the scheduling request.
