Henry County Engineer outlines $1.465 million 2026 road program, bridge replacements and chip-seal plans

Henry County Engineer Timothy J. Schumm presented the county's 2026 Road and Bridge Improvement Program at the commissioners' meeting Feb. 17, outlining a set of resurfacing, widening and bridge projects with funding sources and estimated costs.

Schumm's report lists 9.4 miles of roadway improvements on county routes (specific segments named in the report) with a total estimated cost of $1,465,000. The report also identifies slide repair work along Road Z north of Road L2 at an estimated $215,000.

The Engineer proposed replacing several structures under a force-account program with an estimated cost of $710,000 for the listed bridge projects and noted plans to apply chip-and-seal treatments to approximately 18 miles of county roadway at an estimated $280,000. The report provides additional line-item figures: chip seal for 19 miles ($232,500), asphalt resurfacing 12.1 miles ($1,692,389), and pavement marking across 120 miles ($147,512). Bridge replacement and repair totals and culvert work are itemized in the attached annual report.

Schumm's materials identify Gas Tax and license plate fees as the funding sources for these projects and include contact information and a map showing project locations. The report also summarizes the 2025 budget and revenue/expenditure totals for the Engineer's office, listing total 2025 revenues and expenditures both at $7,621,063.50.

The Engineer's report serves as the county's plan for capital and maintenance work in 2026; the minutes record the report and the attached project map but do not show the commissioners taking a separate formal vote on the plan during the meeting.
