Henry County landfill report shows January volumes; commissioners approve notice to propose $0.15-per‑pound tire rate

The Henry County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 10 received a monthly update on landfill operations and approved publishing a legal notice to propose a tire-disposal rate of $0.15 per pound.

Tracy McDaniels, the county’s Environmental Facilities Manager, presented the landfill report and packet materials, saying the transfer facility accepted 54.81 tons of municipal solid waste and 64.72 tons of tires in January. McDaniels also noted routine operating details, including that the facility will be closed Monday, Feb. 16, 2026 for Presidents' Day and that office hours and contact information are available on the county website.

The board considered budget and line-item documents for the landfill and associated tire-lease fund, which show projected tire income of $300,000 and tire-related expenses of $270,000 (with a $30,000 tire transfer). The packet listed specific expense lines including a $10,252.71 payment to Mannik/Smith and indirect costs of $12,651.

Commissioner G. Jeff Brubaker moved to publish a legal notice proposing a tire rate of $0.15 per pound; Commissioner Joel Miller seconded the motion, which the board approved unanimously (see Resolution D).
