Senate adopts resolution honoring Sen. Bill Dotzler as colleagues pay tribute

The Iowa Senate on Tuesday adopted Senate Resolution 120 to honor Senator Bill Dotzler for his three decades of service to the Iowa General Assembly.
Senator Peterson introduced the resolution, noting Dotzler's election to the House in 1996 and to the Senate in 2002 and listing years of committee service and policy work on labor, education, veterans' affairs and economic development. "Senator Dotzler has been a champion for the rights of workers to organize, receive high quality education and training," Peterson said as he read the resolution's findings.
Members on both sides of the aisle took the floor to offer personal memories and praise. Senator Lofgren said he "will definitely miss you," Senator Sires called Dotzler "a good and caring individual," and several others recalled Dotzler's institutional knowledge, humor and commitment to constituents. Senator Donahue, Senator Dawson, Senator Kalker and others shared anecdotes about Dotzler's mentorship and long record of service.
After multiple tributes the resolution was moved and adopted by the Senate. Senator Dotzler took the floor to deliver his farewell remarks, telling stories from his legislative career, thanking staff and family, and explaining his plan to retire to care for family and to serve locally as a county supervisor.
The chamber briefly recessed so colleagues could offer personal privileges and then adjourned until Wednesday, April 22 at 9 a.m.
