The Iowa Senate on the floor adopted Senate Resolution 119 honoring Senator Zach Wahls for his service since first being elected in 2018.
Senator Bennett introduced the resolution and colleagues across the aisle and within Wahls’ caucus offered tributes to his leadership on issues including affordable housing and manufactured‑home protections. Senator Trone Garriott and others recounted Wahls’ mentorship to newer members; sponsors cited his work on mobile home protections and term‑limits and ethics bills.
Senator Wahls delivered a lengthy retirement address thanking family, staff and colleagues, urging young Iowans to run for office and recounting work to protect mobile home residents. He highlighted constituent stories and urged continued public engagement and rotation in public service, and said he would continue work outside the chamber.
The resolution was moved and adopted by voice vote. Wahls’s remarks emphasized listening to constituents and the slow, people‑led nature of policy change.
