Collierville board amends FY26 budget to fund animal shelter care and water/road projects

Budget officer JP Spas told the board the animal shelter requested an appropriation of $20,000 in donated funds to cover medical supplies and veterinary care. Engineering staff requested an additional $173,000 from general fund unassigned balance for the Holmes Road precast-slab overlay non-capital project, which Spas said will bring that project’s budget to $473,000. Engineering also requested $80,000 in CDBG funds for the West Street water-system improvements, which would bring that project’s budget to $325,000.
Spas summarized the amendments and said staff had prepared a sample motion and was available to answer questions. Board members asked about the Holmes Road timing; engineering indicated a contract would be brought to the board at the next meeting and estimated roughly 120 days for material delivery and related steps.
A motion to approve the resolution passed on a roll-call vote; all members present voted yes.
The approved amendment directs finance to reflect the additional appropriations in the CIP and non-capital projects and allows staff to proceed with procurement steps and contract presentation at a future board meeting.
