Vernon County WIC shifts to phone services; flu clinics vaccinate about 900 students

Vernon County WIC staff told the Board that they are conducting appointments by phone and will not resume in-person appointments until February per state WIC office guidance. USDA waivers have been extended through the ongoing health crisis to allow remote services.
The department said it has continued its breast pump loan program with modified procedures to provide and receive pumps safely. Staff reported that FoodShare increases have helped ease food-security concerns for some families. The biannual monitoring and evaluation is complete and is currently in the response phase.
On influenza preparedness, staff reported that an annual influenza school preparedness exercise was completed within contract guidelines: approximately 900 vaccinations were given to students and an estimated 500–600 private adult doses were administered. The department shared its annual report with attendees during the meeting.
