Council approves introduction of code updates to align boards and commissions rules

The Aurora City Council on May 4 introduced two code-change ordinances aimed at housekeeping and alignment across boards and commissions.
Brian Green, director of Parks and Recreation, described ordinance 2026-16 (item 13a) as a "very simple change" to make term limits for the Commission for Older Adults consistent with other boards and commissions following the 2025 consolidation work. The council moved and approved the introduction without discussion.
Ginger White Brunetti, director of Library and Cultural Services, presented ordinance 2026-17 (item 13b), which updates library board bylaws to allow for email voting consistent with Colorado open meetings law, clarifies selection of a board secretary, raises the maximum membership from seven to 15, and permits members who live or work in Aurora (including unincorporated Aurora) to serve. Council approved introduction after brief discussion clarifying the rationale for broadening eligibility.
Both items passed their introduction votes unanimously at the meeting and were scheduled for subsequent hearings per the usual ordinance process.
