Residents urge transparency, engagement on proposed Aurora Reservoir access road

Residents of neighborhoods near the Aurora Reservoir raised concerns during public comment about a proposed access-road study that they said would place traffic and intrusion directly behind homes.
Shanda Stewart, who identified herself as a native of Aurora and resident for nearly 50 years, asked the council for "transparency, accountability and some meaningful community engagement," saying the study and decisions to change reservoir access "feel like the community is not being brought in to the evaluation process from the beginning and that erodes trust." Ray Cole, another resident, said the proposed entrance would be located directly behind his home and would increase traffic and disrupt local children’s play areas.
Council members said staff had conducted public engagement and that they would follow up with residents; Council member Bergen noted she is obtaining additional information and planned outreach to Tollgate Crossing residents.
No formal action was taken on the access-road study at the May 4 meeting; residents asked the council for additional meetings and clearer communication about alternatives and impacts.
