North Port proclaims April observances, highlights Price Boulevard work and new volunteer milestones

The City Commission of the City of North Port on April 2 read a series of proclamations recognizing Assault Awareness Month, Donate Life Month, Child Abuse Prevention Month, Parkinson’s Awareness Month and Water Conservation Month, while also honoring volunteers, welcoming new hires and awarding a quarterly business honor.
City Manager Jerome Fletcher introduced several staff and thanked employees for their work. Christine McDade, resources director, presented a roster of newly hired staff across finance, public works, parks and recreation, development services and utilities and invited the new employees to stand for recognition.
Sandra Boudreaux, an AECOM representative working with the city on the Price Boulevard project at the Blue Ridge Waterway, told the commission crews are pouring the second wall of a double-barrel box culvert. "That wall's got to cure," she said, adding that after curing the formwork will be stripped and work will continue on the top, earthwork and roadway. She directed listeners to the Price Boulevard project web page for continued updates.
On water supply, a utilities representative said the region is experiencing drought conditions and that water-management district restrictions will advance to Level 3 starting tomorrow; residents were urged to consult the city website for the specific watering schedule. "Starting tomorrow we go to level 3 with the water management district restrictions for watering," the representative said, and asked the public to check the city site for details.
The commission also recognized volunteer service across city programs. A parks and recreation speaker summarized volunteer contributions over the past year and reported roughly 695 hours of service valued at more than $22,000 (the transcript included a later figure of 704 hours and about $24,000; the record shows inconsistent totals for volunteer hours). The commission encouraged continued volunteer participation in programs including Adopt-a-Park and community events.
Economic development staff presented the quarterly North Port GEM award to King Plastic Corporation for local investment and workforce support; owner Jeff King thanked the commission and said the company looks forward to continued growth in North Port. "We do appreciate that," King said, accepting the recognition.
The meeting closed after public comment and a unanimous 4-0 vote earlier in the meeting to approve the agenda. The commission adjourned at 5:04 p.m.
