District sets multilingual program goals and plans EL leadership team for 2026–27

The presenter said the dataset (fresh as of last week) shows about 41% of students identified under state guidelines as multilingual or English learners; roughly 28% have met exit criteria and about 31% have never been identified as multilingual. English‑to‑proficiency scores for many cohorts remain below target, with most students scoring under 40 on the district’s 0–100 progress scale. The presenter said that metric accounts for 5% of the district’s school designation.
Actions taken this year included professional development for administrators and teachers (instructional coaching, data‑protocol training, asset‑based language practice), targeted ESL/EL curriculum alignment, and participation at a statewide multilingual conference. The district also worked on feeder‑school articulation and logistics for large‑scale access testing.
Looking ahead, staff plan to build an EL leadership team to develop a shared language and a multilingual program improvement plan aligned with the district strategic design. The SMART goal presented calls for a finalized plan by spring 2027 that explains goals, rationales and expected outcomes. The presenter said the leadership team will meet monthly through 2026–27.
Board members asked about articulation with feeder districts; the presenter described meetings with District 33 leaders and counselor teams to ensure placement accuracy and continuity.
The presenter closed by saying there is significant work still to do—data walls, curriculum maps and testing logistics—and invited additional questions next year following implementation of planned steps.
