Resident opposes nearby wind turbines; network director says county phone system RFP is over budget

A Sherman Township resident, Donna Back of 181 Jennifer Rd., used the public‑comment period at the Dec. 2 Huron County Commissioners meeting to object to proposed wind turbines near her home, saying neighbors were not contacted and that she "does not want a wind turbine in her backyard." The board recorded the comment during the public‑comment portion of the meeting; no formal action was taken at that time.
Later in the meeting, Joel Reidy, the county’s Network Director, provided an update on a phone system request for proposals. He said the solicitation produced seven responses, three of which were viable, but his preferred vendor’s proposal exceeded the initial planning amount. "When the project was originally thought of there was a budget of $150,000.00; the project came in at almost $206,000.00," Reidy said, adding that the preferred bid includes the sheriff’s office and was the lowest of the viable proposals. Reidy said a product demonstration was held and the feedback was positive; he asked the board for permission to move forward while the county’s assistant prosecutor reviews the contract early next week.
Commissioners discussed whether the county’s 20% change‑order rule applied and legal counsel indicated the 20% threshold normally applies to change orders. Reidy said he had turned the contract over to the county prosecutor for review. No final contract approval for the phone system was recorded in the meeting minutes.
