Resident urges Huron County to intervene as township ambulance contract prices rise

Hunker said that providers North Central and Fisher‑Titus have approached Lyme Township, which has about 900 residents, and proposed raising the township’s annual contract payment from $4,400 to $5,300 by 2028. He said similar approaches are occurring in Berlin and Milan townships. Hunker said he had discussed the matter earlier with a commissioner and urged the county to lead discussions so small townships are not "picked off one by one" and to prevent what he described as a conflict of interest if a provider also advocates for an ambulance district.
The board did not take action during the meeting; there was no response recorded in the minutes beyond the public comment. The matter was raised as a request for the commissioners to consider facilitating broader coordination among townships on ambulance service arrangements.
