Commissioners approve claims register, clear travel and discuss budgets; interviewee supported for housing authority board

The Board of Huron County Commissioners approved routine financial and administrative items Nov. 25 and discussed several budget matters ahead of the 2026 fiscal year.
By unanimous roll call, the Board approved the claims register to accompany Payment Batches #414178 and authorized the Huron County Auditor to issue warrants. Commissioner Harry Brady moved to waive reading of prior meeting minutes and the Board approved those minutes.
The Board also approved travel requests for county officials: Commissioners Harry Brady and Bob Morgan will attend an NCAT meeting in Tiffin on Dec. 2, 2025; Commissioner Brady will attend multiple CEBCO meetings including one in Columbus on Dec. 17, 2025. These travel actions were approved by motion and recorded as unanimous.
During the Administrator/Clerk report, county staff corrected a missing zero in Norwalk Municipal Court figures. The Board discussed the Board of Elections' proposed budget, which anticipates two elections in 2026 and may require additional funds if an August election is called; commissioners noted state support may be available in that scenario. Officials also discussed Huron County Growth Partnership's request for an extra $50,000; commissioners agreed to maintain funding at $90,000 for now and revisit the request later.
At 9:15 a.m., Mary Beier interviewed for a board opening on the Huron Metropolitan Housing Authority. Beier expressed interest in serving; commissioners expressed support and asked that a resolution be prepared to appoint her.
