Claiborne County approves $471,152 bond payment and $700,000 transfer for road overlays

Chancery Clerk Gloria Dotson presented a $471,152.42 invoice for the Mississippi Development Bank special obligation bond series 2020 related to county road and bridge repair and refunding. “It’s a bond that the board approved back in 2020,” Dotson said; the board moved and carried approval to pay the invoice.
Dotson also asked the board to approve a $700,000 budget amendment to the use‑tax monetization fund to cover contracts and engineering costs for overlay projects on Gordon Station Road, Dorsey Lane, Ohio 18 Number 6 and Castle Division Number 1. The board approved the transfer and the planned overlays.
Separately, the board approved a $57,078.76 budget amendment in the road equipment fund to pay a Puckett Machinery invoice for damaged road equipment and a $5,571 transfer from the operations clearing fund to an MSOFT account the county received from the state of Mississippi.
Clerk Dotson said the county has one outstanding bond and offered to circulate an amortization schedule to supervisors; she also reported that the $700,000 request covered both contract and engineering costs for the listed projects.
The actions clear the way for immediate contracting and engineering steps on the road overlays; supervisors asked staff to provide supporting documentation and amortization details as follow‑up.
