Commissioners approve grants, transfers and bids for road improvements; land bank decision, cost-allocation update also on agenda

At its Nov. 18 meeting the Huron County Board of Commissioners approved VOCA/SVAA grants and a $14,351.45 match transfer, authorized advertising for Hartland Center Road bids, approved an $8,135.40 JFS furniture purchase, and directed the Land Bank not to award a demolition alternate for the Shady Lane maintenance garage.
The Huron County Board of Commissioners handled routine administrative business at its Nov. 18 session in Norwalk, approving grant awards, budget transfers, procurement and travel requests.
The board accepted 2026 VOCA and SVAA grant awards prepared by the prosecutor’s office and committed a $14,351.45 match for the VOCA grant (resolution 25-320), then authorized a transfer of that amount from the Transfer Out Fund to the VOCA grant fund (25-321).
Commissioners authorized advertising for bids on the Hartland Center Road Improvements Phase 1 project (resolution 25-319). Engineer Lee Tansey said the project will run about two years and cover Hartland Center Road from Scranton Road to the county line. The public bid advertisement set a Dec. 18, 2025 bid opening and a project completion deadline of Oct. 9, 2026.
The board approved a request to purchase desks for Job and Family Services from Seagate Office Supplies for $8,135.40 (resolution 25-322). It also approved travel requests for commissioners and staff and approved signing a letter supporting CLI Incorporated’s ODOT Section 5310 application to buy wheelchair-accessible vans.
On the Land Bank, Commissioner James Morgan moved — and the board approved — leaving the county maintenance garage on Shady Lane in service and advising the Land Bank not to award the demolition alternate. Matt Perry of Schonhardt & Associates updated the board that the county’s Central Service Cost Allocation Plan will be updated to reflect the Aug. 2024 Super Circular and should be ready next week.
The meeting opened with routine roll call and claims approvals and adjourned at 10:03 a.m.
