Grant County board approves bills, a utility permit and hears extension and township reports; auditor to propose budget amendments

Grant County Commissioners on April 1, 2026, approved bills totaling $39,834.53 and granted a utility permit for a fiber optic cable boring. Commissioner Al Roy Hochhalter moved to approve the bills; Commissioner Marty Meyer seconded and roll call was unanimous. The minutes list several payees, including Sauber Engineering Inc. ($31,854.25), GS Publishing LLC ($1,863.75) and others.
Jason Albert presented utility permit UTL-2026-002 for fiber optic cable boring in sections 4 and 5 of Township 131 North, Range 89 West; Pretty Rock Township had no objections and the board approved the permit by roll call.
NDSU Extension Agents Tessa Osterbauer and Amanda Dahners presented the quarterly extension report. Merlin Leithold, Jerald Christensen and township representatives for Rock Township (Saul Meier, Dennis Rivinius and Travis Rafteseth) presented their 2026 organized township road agreements; the minutes record the presentations but do not show separate recorded board actions for each agreement in these entries.
Auditor Sara Meier reviewed comments from the 2018–2019 State Auditor review and said many recommendations have been implemented. Meier told the board that, because of right-of-way acquisitions and departmental needs, she will present recommended amendments to the 2026 budgets at the next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m.; the minutes list the next scheduled meetings on April 15 and May 6, 2026.
