Huron County commissioners accept Budget Commission's certified amounts and tax rates

The adopted resolution accepts Schedule A and Schedule B, which list estimated amounts required from general property tax and levies outside the 10-mill limitation. The schedules include allocations for the General Fund, Road and Bridge, the District Board of Health, Child Welfare Services (Christie Lane levies), mental-health and clinic levies, senior services and a 9-1-1 levy. The county auditor's estimates appear in the schedule alongside the amounts approved by the Budget Commission.
Commissioner Bradley R. Mesenburg, who seconded the resolution, said the county is on the lower end of the schedule and added, "If you have questions on where your property tax is going, this chart would explain." The resolution cites Ohio Revised Code sections 5705.34 and 5705.35 and instructs the clerk to certify the document to the auditor.
Why it matters: the certification sets the county's portion of property-tax levies and provides the legal basis for the auditor to place levies on the tax duplicate, which in turn helps fund county services such as public health, roads and designated special programs.
The motion passed by roll call; Commissioners Tom Dunlap and Bradley R. Mesenburg voted aye, and Commissioner Harry Brady was recorded absent.
