Grant County sets graveling bid date, approves culvert purchase and reviews fiber utility permit

Commissioners on March 18 set procurement steps for several road and maintenance projects, approved a culvert purchase and reviewed a utility permit for fiber work in county right-of-way.

Marty Meyer told the Board he would solicit proposals for a local fence project. Jason Albert presented utility permit UTL-2026-002 seeking to bore fiber-optic cable in Sections 4 and 5 of Township 131 North, Range 89 West; Albert said he will contact Pretty Rock Township and report back to the Board.

The Board noted there were no bids submitted earlier for a Gravel excavating and stockpiling project. Commissioners set an April 22, 2026 bid opening at 11:00 a.m. for Graveling Project 2026-3 (surface graveling on three roads) with a completion deadline of Oct. 31, 2026; Meyer moved to advertise for bids and the motion passed unanimously.

Jon Alt presented a quote for culverts from TruNorth. Commissioner Meyer moved and Al Roy Hochhalter seconded to purchase the culverts; the roll-call vote was unanimous and the purchase was approved. The minutes do not record a purchase amount.

During public comment, Leith resident Kyle Billiot told the Board he has been collecting roadside trash and asked whether patrols or other county action could be used to address the problem; the minutes record the concern but not an ensuing directive.

Why it matters: the bids and purchases affect road-surface maintenance and drainage infrastructure across county roads; the fiber permit may affect seasonal road work planning and local townships. The Board recorded motions and unanimous votes but did not include contract dollar amounts for the culverts or utility-permit conditions in the minutes.

The county will continue procurement and township coordination in future meetings.
