Huron County commissioners approve claims, budget tweak and authorize BWC settlement filing

The Huron County Board of Commissioners met in regular session Aug. 5 and approved several routine administrative measures, including certification of Claims Schedule Batch #407330, a $500 appropriation adjustment in the Emergency Management Agency fund and a travel request for the 911 coordinator.
Those measures were approved by Commissioners Harry Brady and Tom Dunlap, with Commissioner Bradley R. Mesenburg recorded absent. The board unanimously (2–0, one absence) voted to authorize the Huron County Auditor to issue warrants for the certified claims.
Why it matters: The approvals are part of the board's regular fiscal and operational oversight. The appropriation transfer of $500 shifted funds within Fund #177 to cover workers compensation costs; the Auditor will record the journal entry to reflect the change.
Among the actions recorded, the board also authorized staff to solicit bids for a replacement scale at the Huron County Transfer Station and set a mandatory pre-bid conference for Aug. 25. The full bid notice lists September 3, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. as the public bid opening and includes prevailing-wage requirements under Ohio law.
After an executive session, the board voted to authorize the Huron County Prosecutor's Office to execute the filing of a Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) settlement agreement with Lee Schnell; no settlement amount or other terms were included in the public record.
Commissioner Tom Dunlap reported attending the North Fairfield festival over the weekend and the park dedication. Commissioner Harry Brady encouraged residents to attend the county fair next week and reminded the public the commissioners will hold their Aug. 12 meeting at 9 a.m. in the Veterans Pavilion at the fairgrounds.
