Huron County approves senior services appropriation, Growth Partnership payment and departmental purchases

The Huron County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 19 approved several budget and personnel actions affecting county services and operations.
Appropriations and payments - The board appropriated $538,000 to the Senior Services Center Fund #186 (account 189-189-00260), with Administrator/Clerk Vickie Ziemba saying the increase stemmed from higher second-half real estate tax collections. The resolution passed unanimously. - Commissioners authorized the county clerk to voucher a yearly payment of $140,000 from the General Fund (025-00475-001 Economic Development/Other Expenses) to Huron County Growth Partnership for 2025; the vote was unanimous.
Departmental purchases and appropriations - The board approved trading in two older Probation vehicles toward purchasing two 2025 Dodge Durangos for the Adult Probation Department for a quoted total of $67,473; the board also appropriated $70,000 of unappropriated funds to Fund #122 to cover the purchase. Ziemba said the Common Pleas Court had funds available and they were being allocated to Probation. Vote: unanimous. - The board approved a request to purchase TekRx server hardware for 911 & Countywide Communications for $72,125.52. Commissioner Harry Brady said he hoped county IT lead Mr. Riedy would be involved so he could gain familiarity with the equipment. Vote: unanimous.
Personnel and postings - The board approved hiring Russell Dillon Jr. as a full-time custodial worker for Buildings and Grounds at a starting rate of $14.00 per hour, effective Aug. 25, 2025, contingent on a physical, drug test and background check. - The board authorized advertising for a full-time laborer position for the Huron County Solid Waste District to be posted and filled under the applicable collective bargaining agreement. - The board authorized advertising and letting of bids for outfitting a tandem axle cab & chassis truck and, by unanimous vote, waived the statutory bid bonding requirement in favor of a $500 certified check for bidders; the bid opening was set for Sept. 5, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.
Executive session - The board entered executive session under ORC 121.22(G)(1) and (G)(6) to consider personnel and security matters and reconvened later the same day, reporting no action taken.
