Huron County seeks FAA/ODOT grants to upgrade airport lighting and airfield systems

The Huron County Board of Commissioners on March 10 authorized Airport Manager Scott Sparks to apply to the Ohio Department of Transportation Office of Aviation for two FY26 Ohio Airport Improvement Program matching grants.
The first application (FAA AIP 3-39-0062-018-2025) would fund reconstruction of the airfield electrical vault, airport beacon and wind cone, with a total estimated project value of $378,081.00. The board recorded eligible funding at 95% from the Federal Aviation Administration ($359,176.00) and 5% from ODOT ($18,905.00).
The second application (FAA AIP 3-39-0062-019-2025) would reconstruct Runway 10-28 and Taxiway C lighting, with an estimated total project value of $735,283.00, including an FAA share of $698,518.00 and an ODOT share of $36,765.00.
Both resolutions authorize Tom Dunlap, Board of Commissioners President, to enter into grant contracts and permit Scott Sparks to sign application documents and assurances. Commissioners voted aye; Commissioner Harry Brady was absent.
