Arapahoe County adopts proclamations, amends Dayton Point PUD and vacates easements; sets fireworks hearing

Arapahoe County commissioners used their April 14 meeting to adopt proclamations, approve land-use housekeeping actions and set a public hearing on a fireworks ordinance.

Proclamations and recognitions

The board adopted three proclamations: April 2026 as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, April 2026 as National Autism Acceptance Month, and April 12–18, 2026 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. County human services staff and Sheriff Tyler Brown accepted the proclamations; Brown described the county’s Blue Envelope Program, an initiative to help deputies recognize and better interact with residents who have communication challenges such as autism.

Dayton Point PUD amendment (SDPZ23-001)

The board approved an amendment to a condition of approval for the Dayton Point specific development plan (case SDPZ23-001). Staff said the resolution adopted last October required cash-in-lieu payments for parks and schools; the applicant, Alpert Multifamily Development LLC, requested language allowing the payment to be made at the time of replat or, if a different map is used, at the subsequent administrative site plan approval. Planning staff, in consultation with the County Attorney, recommended the amended condition and the board voted to approve the amendment.

Sky Ranch easement vacation (VAC25-004)

The board also voted to vacate three easements at Skye Ranch subdivision filing #7, a technical item moved from the consent agenda so members of the public could comment. The resolution vacating the unneeded easements was adopted following a motion by Commissioner Campbell.

Fireworks ordinance — first reading and hearing set

County Attorney Ron Karl read the first reading of Ordinance 2026-02, which would prohibit the sale and use of fireworks in unincorporated Arapahoe County during specified periods unless the board adopts a separate resolution finding high fire danger. The board moved to set a public hearing on May 12, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for final consideration; the hearing was ordered to be published in the county newspaper at least 10 days prior.
