Avon Grove outlines multi-year safety and facilities projects; board to consider roof bid

Board facilities and operations staff on April 23 presented a multi-year safety and facilities plan and recommended contract actions for upcoming legislative consideration.
The safety plan listed near-term items already completed or in progress (Avion project, night-lock devices, burglar-panel work) and near-term priorities including window shades, exterior lighting upgrades, panic-bar and shield installations at eight middle-school gates, and continued work on district door-access systems. Planned 2026—27 work includes phased installation of window-security film at all buildings, vape detectors at the middle school and district-wide camera and door-access upgrades.
Facilities staff described several capital projects through 2029—30, including a $150,000 2026—27 allocation for a new high-school storage building, LVT and carpet replacements, roof restorations (multiple wings and the library) with work beginning in June and continued multi-year projects for bleachers, tennis courts and locker-room improvements.
On bids, staff reported six bids were received for the Avon Grove High School roof project and recommended awarding the contract to Munn Roofing Corporation, the lowest bidder at $1,218,000, for approval at the legislative meeting. Separately, bids for a Penn London vestibule and middle-school shower renovations produced totals above original expectations (committee cited an aggregate cost above $414,000) and the committee recommended pausing those projects to evaluate alternatives, seek separate pricing for the vestibule and consult with Penn London administrators on need and cost-effective options.
Facilities staff said the PLE security vestibule project remains on hold while alternatives are considered.
Next steps: Contract award recommendations and budget approvals related to these capital projects will be presented to the board at the legislative meeting for formal action.
