Huron County approves $2.58 million in road and bridge contracts, waives bid bond for truck procurement

The Huron County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 3 approved two construction contracts and several routine administrative items during a regular session.
The board approved entering into contract with Sarver Paving Company of Ashland, Ohio, for the Hartland Center Road Improvements — Phase 1 project for the Huron County Engineer; the record lists the contract amount at $472,578.00. The board also approved a contract with Great Lakes Demolition Co., LLC, of Clyde, Ohio, for the Peru West Section Line Road Bridge Replacement design/build project for $2,109,500.00. Both contracts were moved by Commissioner James R. Morgan, seconded by Commissioner Tom Dunlap, and recorded as adopted with the two commissioners present and one absent. The meeting minutes note the contracts are on file.
The board also approved Claims Schedule Payment Batches #418196 as required by Ohio Revised Code §305.10.
Separately, the board authorized advertising bids for a new tandem-axle cab and chassis truck, directing publication of the legal notice and waiving statutory bid-bonding requirements under O.R.C. §153.54 pursuant to the board authority in O.R.C. §307.88(B. A certified check of $500 will be required for each bid submitted. The bid opening is scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2026, with public reading at 9:00 a.m. in the commissioners' office; specifications are available from the Huron County Engineer’s office.
Other items recorded in the minutes include endorsement of Lara Hozalski and Michele Pfeiffer for membership in the County Loss Control Coordinators Association (fee $185), approval of multiple employee travel requests for February–April 2026, and executive-assistant and commissioner reports. Jon White, identified in the record as President of the Master Gardener's, requested to plant an oak tree at the Veterans Memorial Park; the commissioners deferred to the Park Board to lead that effort.
All motions on the consent items were moved by Commissioner Morgan and seconded by Commissioner Dunlap; recorded votes were Aye by Morgan and Dunlap, with Commissioner Harry Brady absent. The meeting adjourned at 9:13 a.m.
