Huron County to seek bids for runway obstruction removal at county airport; ODOT to cover most costs

The Huron County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 10 authorized the Huron County Airport to solicit sealed bids for the Runway 10-28 Obstruction Removal Phase II project, with bids due at the commissioners' office on March 3, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
According to the resolution and discussion, the Ohio Department of Transportation's Office of Aviation issued a Notice of Project Approval and committed to pay 95% of eligible project costs up to a maximum of $118,750. The county agreed to provide the required 5% local match.
Scott Sparks of the Airport Board described the area targeted for removal as the northwest corner of the runway that was cleared in 2008 and has since regrown. "They will be able to get their weather system put in that area so it will be a good thing," Sparks said, noting the FAA originally funded the prior clearing and the current work is maintenance and safety-related.
The advertisement requires bidders to obtain complete bid packages from Richland Engineering (29 North Park Street, Mansfield) for $15 per set, furnish bid security and performance bonds, comply with prevailing wage and equal-employment requirements, and complete work within 90 calendar days from the Notice to Proceed. The county reserves the right to reject any or all bids. No pre-bid meeting is planned; bidders are advised to visit the site prior to submitting proposals.
