SACO — The Saco City Council voted unanimously May 4 to declare a vacancy on the planning board after councilors said Carrie Lynn Lane had missed more than the allowable meetings and had not submitted a formal resignation.
Councilor Johnston moved to declare the seat vacant under Saco City Code §4-41(b)(2) and (b)(3), noting that Lane had been appointed on April 22, 2024 for a three-year term but had only attended two meetings since she sought a temporary absence in November 2025. "In keeping with Saco city code, the city council is now asked to consider formally declaring the seat vacant so the board can maintain its full membership moving forward," Johnston said.
The motion, seconded by Councilor Gale, passed by roll call 6–0. Councilors said Mayor Veil had reached out to Lane and that no resignation had been received as of April 30. The council did not immediately appoint a replacement; the seat will be filled according to the procedures set out in city code.
