Committee advances JAG-funded MOU to buy training pistols for police force-on-force training

Carrie Cohen of the police department explained that Jackson County applies for a pass-through Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) on behalf of the city and other jurisdictions and asked the committee to approve an MOU to accept $12,788 in allocated funds.
The police presentation said the allocated funds would be used to purchase eight Glock training pistols and related accessories to conduct force-on-force training and supplement virtual reality training. Cohen said the equipment supports decision-making under stress, use-of-force judgment consistency and de‑escalation training, and that the city had not budgeted for replacement of dated force-on-force equipment.
Committee members had no questions and voted to advance the MOU to full council for approval.
