Avon Grove details safety upgrades and multi‑year capital projects; $1M grant offsets HVAC work

Current multi‑year projects include exterior lighting upgrades, phased stadium fence/gate repairs with panic bars on eight gates to ease egress and a vendor‑coordinated camera/door‑access upgrade plan. Simpkins said night‑lock devices were purchased and installations are being scheduled; a district police vehicle for Officer Donahue was also purchased.
Simpkins noted the district is spending a previous PCCD public‑safety grant (last grant cycle) on swing‑gate replacements rather than a fully automated gate due to cost constraints and said vape detector installation in student bathrooms is planned for 2026–27 with associated cabling costs.
Chris Farmer detailed facilities long‑range plan line items by building: a $150,000 storage building at the high school pushed to 2026–27, multi‑year LVT and furniture replacement at the middle school, a $625,000 locker replacement plan in future years, and bleacher replacement moved earlier after inspection with a rough $350,000 estimate. Farmer also reported $1,520,350 paid to date for AGI HVAC recommissioning with projected costs rising toward $1.76M and said a $1,000,000 public facilities improvement grant will offset the AGI and Penn London work; he said the HVAC startup is scheduled imminently.
Business office staff reported a roofing bid opening with Mun Roofing Corporation submitting the lowest bid at $1,218,000 for the Avon Grove Middle School roof; administration recommended that award be on next week’s agenda.
